Sarah Palin for VP – Seriously?

Seriously?  Sarah Palin?  Democrats would have gotten some yucks over Kay Bailey Hutchinson (she’s had a few Texas-isms in her time), but at least she’s politically competent with years of experience.  Carly Fiorina would have been a terrible choice; but she was the CEO of a huge corporation, even if she nearly killed it.  Heck, even Meg Whitman has some good organizational credibility as former CEO of eBay.  But Sarah Palin?  Seriously?

  • She’s facing investigation for corruption in Alaska.
  • She has no foreign policy experience.
  • She has no experience!  She’s been governor for two years – since 2006.  Prior to being governor of Alaska, she was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska with a population of 5,470!
  • And with all of this, she will be one step away from the presidency.

Wow.  Just wow.  I’m stunned.  I try to keep this blog mostly politically neutral, and I’m stunned enough to write this here.  Wow.

  1. It certainly was a surprise. I know so little about her it’s hard to get a good feel for the pick…

  2. Sounds like a play for disillusioned Hillary supporters. The ones who keep saying they are going to vote for McCain instead of Obama…not sure what else she brings to the table outside of adding a youth/diversity element to the campaign’s image…

  3. No need to worry, for either party, b/c in both cases there’s still a middle-aged white guy around to do the thinking.

    Phew.

  4. Or Elizabeth Dole? Senator, former Cabinet member, campaign trail experience, ovaries…

Also, it seems to me what the PUMAs are mad about is the young, good-looking, flashy one stealing the chance away from their girl Hillary, not just ‘let’s get a woman in there.’ I feel as a pander, it will alienate some of those women more than attract them…

  5. I think Elizabeth Dole is running for reelection. I also completely forgot about Olympia Snowe, who would have been an outstanding choice.
