The pancake rocks of Punakaiki stand as one of nature’s more intriguing geological features. On our visit, the weather was dreadful with rain, fog, and wind. The ambiance of this photo captures the mood well.

Mel Gibson certainly isn’t the greatest role model in the world, but he did film his latest movie right around the corner from where I live. In fact, you can see lots of Massachusetts in the trailer for the Edge of Darkness – now available on Apple’s movie trailer page.
Here’s one scene I grabbed off the trailer that was filmed very close to home. The river in the background is the lovely Merrimack River and the bridge at the top is the historic Rocks Village Bridge. I drive over that bridge twice a day going to and from work. Pretty cool!

I love glaciers, and the Franz Josef Glacier on New Zealand’s south island was one of the most extraordinary I have ever seen. This photo highlights some of the amazing details layered in the glacier ice, all creating a spectacular abstract look.
