The pancake rocks of Punakaiki stand as one of nature’s more intriguing geological features. On our visit, the weather was dreadful with rain, fog, and wind. The ambiance of this photo captures the mood well.

I love glaciers, and the Franz Josef Glacier on New Zealand’s south island was one of the most extraordinary I have ever seen. This photo highlights some of the amazing details layered in the glacier ice, all creating a spectacular abstract look.

I’m changing the way I post photos on my blog. In the past I would take a huge set of photos, pick from them the best of the best, painstakingly edit each one, fret over the edits, go back and agonize over my original selection, fret some more, and finally post a big archive after months and months of preparation. My Iceland set is a good example of this approach.
This method sucks. I spent so much time working on the photos and so little time sharing them with other people. Starting today, I’m doing things differently. From now on, I’m going to post one photo at a time as I edit them. This way, I can write more about an individual photo and not care about whether or not the rest of the set is perfect. This also frees me from worrying about whether or not the set as a whole fits together. Frankly, I take so many photos that they’ll never fit together in a unified artistic whole when presented in one bulk upload.
There is one downside to this approach. Sometimes I go back to older photos I already edited and tweak them. Maybe I changed my mind about something or maybe I found something that needed fixing like noise or lens distortion. Therefore, I’m going to reserve the right to post a photo again if I make a significant adjustment.
I hope you enjoy this new approach!

A quick photo I took tonight on my way home from running errands. This is the John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge in Newburyport, MA. Click to enlarge.

This past May, Gwen and I took a trip to Iceland. It was one of the most spectacular places I have ever visited, and the trip was incredibly rewarding. I took quite a few photos and I have posted my favorites below. Click to start the slideshow.

A few weekends ago, 49 tall ships sailed into Boston Harbor for Sail Boston 2009 and the Tall Ship Atlantic Challenge. They spent the weekend here, drawing over a million visitors.
I wanted to share a few photos I took. This time around, I want to use a Lightroom Flash gallery instead of the inline site galleries I’ve used in the past. Let me know what you think of this. To view the photos, click here or click on the image below.
