Hikers on Sólheimajökull Glacier, Iceland

Hikers on Sólheimajökull, Iceland

I took this picture over 10 years ago when my wife and I made a trip to Iceland just after the recession had started. Tickets to Iceland were very affordable, so we packed our bags and went on an adventure around the island. It was a spectacular trip, and one I’d love to revisit someday in the future.

Sunset, El Mirador, Cozumel, Mexico

Sunset, El Mirador, Cozumel, Mexico

We took a trip to Cozumel last December to scuba dive, but unfortunately I caught a cold on the first day. Since diving and sinus infections don’t really mix, I grabbed my camera and looked around for some photography instead. Cozumel is a weird little island because all of the development is on the west side of the island, and all of the public beaches are on the east. What you won’t find are any public beaches on the west, making sunset photography from a quiet little beach practically impossible. So this photo represents the next best thing – a shot from the El Mirador beach on the southeast corner of the island looking back across the narrowest stretch of land possible.

Trail to Champney Falls, Albany, New Hampshire

Trail to Champney Falls, Albany, New Hampshire

In 2013, when I was still living in Massachusetts, my mother came to visit to see the fall color. There were a lot of options for places to go, and after some research we picked out New Hampshire’s Kancamagus highway, a route that is world renowned for its fall foliage. We drove up together, along with my dogs, and decided on a hike to Champney Falls along the way.

Twilight at the Musée d’Orsay, Paris, France

Twilight at the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, France

I’ve already written several times about my work trip to Paris in 2018 which yielded an absolutely incredible evening of photography after a solid day of rain. After taking two sunset photos of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel and its statue on top, the evening continued with blue hour providing a benedictory backdrop for the Musée d’Orsay at twilight. This was the final photo I took on that evening, closing out an extraordinary day of weather and photography.

Morning on the South Jetty, Plum Island, Massachusetts

Morning on the South Jetty, Plum Island, Massachusetts

Sometime you just wake up and want to take photos. That was the case in 2012 when I took this photo of the Plum Island jetty near Newburyport, MA on an early November morning. I recall having in mind a pretty sunrise, but I ended up getting a cloudy bluish-gray morning instead. Not to be deterred, I went on to take this photo of the clouds over the jetty, mirroring the sea below.
